Firebreak

(Harbison State Forest)

TrailMap

Description
: Harbison State Forest offers a number of interconnected hiking and biking trails. Firebreak is a moderately strenuous multiuse loop trail, which is used by hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. Beginning at the far end of Parking Area 1, you will pass through a forest of mixed pine and hardwood for about a mile, where the trail turns east, broadens, and then descends to cross the gravel access road. After a steep ascent and descent the trail becomes fairly level. Watch for wildlife, including white-tailed deer, and a variety of birds, lizards, and snakes.

You can extend your ride or hike by taking the Connector Trail to the Stewardship Trail, or by turning onto the Midlands Mountain Multiple Use Trail. Water and restrooms are available at the gazebo area and the Environmental Education Center. Pets are permitted on leashes.

Length: 4.0-mile loop.

Fees: Check the following website for fee information: http://www.state.sc.us/forest/permit.htm
