Description:
Starting from either trailhead, this  section of the Palmetto Trail is flat, easy hiking or riding mostly on a wide dike system that provides a beautiful view of the lake. The surface is mainly dirt except for a section of boardwalk and an arched bridge over a creek. Primitive camping is available in four areas around the lake.

Length: 26.0 miles, one way

Fees: None

Directions: To the eastern trailhead: From I-26, drive northeast on US 17A or US 52 and pass through Moncks Corner. When US 17A and US 52 split, stay on US 52. The trailhead is 3.6 miles on the left at the US Forest Service Canal Recreation Area.

To the western trailhead: From Santee, drive southeast on US 6 to Eutawville where US 45 will join US 6.  Continue on US 6/45 until they split, then turn north on US 45. The trailhead is on the right just after you cross the diversion canal.  

Hours: Year-round (trailside camping)

Camping: There are four primitive camping areas with fire rings and potable water.
