Rose Hill
Plantation Loop
(Rose
Hill Plantation State Historic Site)
Trail Map

Description:
From the trailhead to the right of the picnic pavilion, you will walk
on this short, gently rolling, pine needle covered loop trail through
a shady cedar and oak forest. A short distance along the loop, you can
turn right onto a spur trail where you can descend a steep slope
through sheltered, lowland grass to the Tyger River. Although the spur
trail is fairly easy to follow, its gray markers often blend with the
forest colors, and you may need to navigate around fallen trees.
Return the way you came to the main trail. At the woods’ edge,
follow the paved drive past a slave cabin replica and a shed with the
remains of some old carriages, and then loop back to the parking area.
Watch for birds, snakes and other wildlife. Insect repellent is
recommended in warm weather. Pets are allowed on leashes. Restrooms
are located in the log cabin.
Length:
0.6 mile loop (The spur to the Tyger River and back is .94 mile).
Directions:
From Whitmire, drive north on US 176. Just past the intersection where
SC 72/121 split off, turn left onto Old Buncombe Road (Union County
Road S-4418). Drive approximately 4.5 miles and turn right onto
Sardis Road (S-4416). Drive to the stop sign and turn right. Rose
Hill Plantation is .3 mile on the right. Enter the gate, turn right at
the top of the hill, then left after the maintenance shed, and
continue to the parking area for the picnic shelter.
