Overmountain Victory Historic Driving Trail
(Spartanburg/Cherokee/York Counties)
Trail Map

Description:
Sections of the foot trail are being
developed, but you can drive the South Carolina part of the route by
using the highways and county roads of Spartanburg, Cherokee, and York
counties.
The Overmountain Victory Historic Trail marks the
14-day march over the
Appalachians to the Piedmont region of the Carolinas
taken by
upcountry patriots from
Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina in the fall of 1780.
These patriots formed a militia, which met the British troops at the
Battle of Kings Mountain. This battle was a turning point of the
Revolutionary War and ultimately led to the surrender of the British at
Yorktown and the end of the war.
Length:
39 miles.
Fees:
No fee.
Directions: Start from the
North Carolina/South Carolina border at the junction of Spartanburg
County, Parris Bridge Road (S-42-58) and Mahaffey Cooley Rd.
(S-42-215) near Chesnee, and finish at Kings Mountain National
Military Park. County road signs are black with white
letters/numbers. County maps, which show all county roads are not
necessary, but helpful if you were to get lost.
