TrailMap

Description:
Starting from the park office in Poinsett State Park, this moderately difficult, out and back trail winds through the swampy section of the park and connects the main part of the park with the Youth Campground. This well marked trail permits you to direct all of your attention to the flora such as rustic mountain laurel, mixed with red cedar draped with Spanish moss, and giant oaks growing alongside dogwood trees. You will also wind through a thriving habitat for all local wildlife such as deer, possum, and several unique birds such as the endangered red cockaded woodpecker. This is a perfect trail for small group overnight backpack outings.

Free Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) is available at and near the park office building.

Length: 2.0 miles.

Directions: From Columbia, drive east (west from Sumter) on US 378 and turn south onto SC 261. Drive for 10 miles and turn right onto Park Road (Sumter County S-43-63). Continue into Poinsett State Park and the trailhead is near the park office.
