Hiking/Mountain
Biking Trail
Saluda Shoals Park
(Lexington County)
Trail Map

Description:
There are a series of paved connecting walkways within the park, but the main
trail is the River Trail, which runs the length of the park. You can begin this
easy walking, multi-use, out-and-back trail from the canoe launch area or the
Environmental Center parking area. This trail is used by hikers and mountain
bikers, and you can sign up for special horse trail rides.
Starting from the canoe
launch area you will start on dirt, passing through a wooded forest of pines and
hardwoods, and then along the banks of Rawls Creek. When you reach the bridge,
cross over and the surface is paved as you follow the banks of the Saluda River. At
approximately 0.7 mile the paved section ends and the trail surface returns to
dirt. Continue on the dirt to Lorick Creek where the trail ends and a short loop
provides a turnaround.
If you would rather walk or
ride on just the paved section, start from the Environmental
Center. When you reach the bridge, continue along the banks of the Saluda River.
The surface is paved for approximately 0.7 mile, and then changes to dirt where
you can return the way you came.
Also the park offers horse
trail rides with rental horses and canoeing on the river. Both of these events
require pre-registration.
Restrooms are available at
the Environmental
Center and near the canoe launch area. Be aware that parts of this trail may be
flooded after heavy rain. Insect repellent is recommended during warm months.
Pets are permitted on leashes, but you must scoop up behind them.
