(Poinsett State Park)

TrailMap

Description:
This aptly named, 0.5-mile trail is a short, moderately difficult out-and-back path nestled between the Laurel Group and Coquina Nature Trails in Poinsett State Park. It requires a good bit of climbing and you will need to hike at least 0.5-mile on one of two connecting trails to reach it. As you wind your way to the top of the hill, mountain plants such as galax and mountain laurel help to create a mountain-like atmosphere. If you started on the Coquina Nature Trail you can return on the other leg of the loop to vary your hike.

Free Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) is available at and near the park office building.

Note: Cyclists using the Palmetto Trail, must use the park road between the office and park entrance.

Length: 0.5-mile one-way. The total hike is 2.4 miles round trip.

Directions: From Columbia, drive east (west from Sumter) on US 378 and turn south onto SC 261. Drive for 10 miles and turn right onto Park Road (Sumter County S-43-63). Drive approximately 1.9 miles to Poinsett State Park and trailhead is at the end of the road by the park office.
