Trail Map
Description :
From the entrance sign to the left of the trailhead, you begin this
easy, 1.4-mile walk on a broad, level, mowed path through a mixed
forest of tall loblolly pine with an under story of sweet gum trees.
Brown stakes with arrows clearly mark the trail and fourteen
educational signs along the trail describe Hurricane Hugo damage, and
explain why and how the forest is being managed. You will walk past
fields planted with corn, sunflowers, peas, sorghum, millet, and wheat
that supply food for wildlife. There are several quiet, wildlife
viewing platforms including one observation deck that overlooks a
limestone sink pond where you may see water birds, snakes and variety
of other creatures. Watch for ant mounds, and wear insect repellant.
Motorized vehicles are prohibited.
