Description: This easy paddling section makes for a nice day trip. You will not see many signs of human habitation, although, you may see an abundance of animals and birds including herons, eagles, and American egrets. You will pass under a railroad trestle and a power line, which you can use to gauge your progress.Numerous sandbars along the way provide an opportunity to stop for lunch or just to rest a bit.

NOTE: Before you go call Santee Cooper at 800­925­2537 about water release information. Water release from the St. Stephen Hydro plant can cause reverse current, which can make paddling in the lower section more difficult.

Mile 0 (GPS N 33.4484 W 80.1593) ­ Highway 52 Landing - From St. Stephen, drive north on US 52 to the Santee River. For your safety, it is not recommended that you leave a vehicle in this remote area.

Mile 12.1 (GPS N 33.4029 W 79.8547) ­ Entrance to Rediversion Canal.

Mile 12.7 (GPS N 33.4045 W 79.8648) ­ Arrowhead Landing ­ From St. Stephen, drive east on SC 45 for approximately 4.5 miles and turn left onto Arrowhead Landing Rd. and continue to the landing.

Hours: Dawn to dusk

Camping: Primitive camping is allowed on sandbars on the river.
