Description: If the Anne Springs Close Greenway has a visual centerpiece, it’s probably the Lake Haigler Nature Trail. This enjoyably easy, 1.3-mile loop starts at the Nature Center and features protected wetlands, a bat house, and an excellent array of wildlife and wildflowers. Before you start, be sure to pick up the interpretive brochure for this trail at the Nature Center. Dedicated as a preserve by the Close family, the Greenway is a scenic, natural buffer between Fort Mill and the sprawling Charlotte metropolitan area to the north. Its mildly hilly terrain offers many views of mixed hardwood and other flora common in this part of the state. The 2,300-acre plot also contains an additional 25 miles of interconnecting hiking, biking, and mountain biking trails.

Length: 1.3-mile loop.

Fees: Free to members of the Greenway; $2 per person for non-members.

Directions: From Exit 85 on Interstate 77 north of Rock Hill, drive southeast on SC 160 toward Fort Mill. Drive .8 mile and turn left (north) onto the US 21 Bypass. The main entrance is 1.5 miles ahead on the right (east). The Lake Haigler Nature Trail begins at the parking lot for the Nature Center.

Hours: Open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Camping: Camping is allowed at the Greenway with reservations.
