Description:
Begin this rolling, hiking/mountain biking perimeter loop as a dirt
path from the picnic area to the trail kiosk (#1 on the color-coded
trail map). Signs and blue markers will guide you along this narrow
path through quiet mixed woods of pine, oak, sweet gum, and hickory,
where you may see snakes, deer, turkey, hawks, rabbits, plus a variety
of other wildlife. You may also see a variety of wild flowers and
encounter vines including honey suckle and poison ivy. Near the end of
the loop, you will pass a scenic pond where you can stop for a minute
and take in the view before you finish. A number of interconnecting
trails provide opportunities to vary the length of your trek, but
allow time to complete your hike/ride before closing hours.
Horseback riding is permitted on the 3rd Saturday of the month. A
fee of $2 is required.
Restrooms are available at the Visitors Center. Insect
repellent is recommended during warm months. Pets and smoking are
prohibited.
Length:
4.3 miles with an additional 3.0 miles in connector trails.
Fees:
$6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for students, and free for children
four and under. (Rates may vary for special events.)
Directions:
From Exit 82 on I77 at Rock Hill, drive southwest on US 21 Bus. When
US 21 Bus becomes SC 322 continue southwest on SC 322. From the
junction with SC 324, drive 4 miles and turn left onto Brattonsville
Road (S46-165). Drive approximately 2 miles to the Visitors Center
on the left. Pick up a trail map at the Visitors Center when you pay
the fee.
Hours:
Open year round Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1
to 5 p.m. (Guided site tours are offered Tuesday thru Saturday at 11
a.m. and 2 p.m.)
