Description:
From US Highway 17 drive on Main Road for 0.5 mile to the office. A kiosk in the parking area has information about the area and a brochure with numbered site seeing stops. You will be driving/cycling on mainly flat dirt roads, which wind through a forest of pines and lowland hardwoods, such as sweet gum, red maple, and oaks. This wildlife area is the home for wide variety of song birds and especially shore birds. You may see herons, egrets, ibises, rails, and possibly a bald eagle. From alligators warming in the sun, this area supports whitetail deer, feral hogs, bobcats, and a variety of squirrels.

Restrooms are available at the Wildlife Check Station. Insect repellent is a must in this area almost anytime of year.

Length: 10.5 miles.

Fees: No fee.

Directions: From Walterboro, drive south on SC Highway 303 to US Highway 17. Turn left onto US 17, and then right onto the first gravel road (Main Road). The WMA office is .5 mile on the left. Stop at the parking area and sign in at the kiosk where you can also pick up a map and information.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday from January 21 to October 31. It may be closed for special hunts in April and October. The hunts are posted on the bulletin board, but if you are driving a long way, you should call ahead.

Camping: No camping.
