Description: From the sign near the entrance gate, begin this short, gently rolling, out-and-back, hiking/biking trail. Follow the winding dirt path over roots, and bumps through occasionally dense, semi-tropical foliage. The trail is well marked at a jagged juncture where you will turn right, go a short distance, and then turn left back into the woods. The trail ends at the paved road to the campground. Watch for white-tailed deer, raccoon, snakes, and over 100 species of birds.  At the beach, you can tour a historic lighthouse ($1 per person) that offers a scenic view of both island and sea.

Restrooms and water are located at the Lighthouse Complex and the Visitor Center  that houses natural and cultural exhibits. . Pets are permitted on leashes.  Insect repellent is recommended during the warm months.

Length: 1.0 mile one-way.

Directions: From I-95 Exit 33, drive north on US 17 for approximately 8 miles and stay to the right on US 21 south. In Beaufort, continue south on US 21 to Hunting Island. The park entrance is located on the left past the campground entrance. Enter the park, and walk back through the gate. The trail is on the right.
