Hiking Trail

John Sloan (#21)

(Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area)

TrailMap

Description:
From Jones Gap State Park you will need to hike 2.6 miles on the Rim of the Gap Trail or 4.5 miles on the Pinnacle Pass Trail, both strenuous, to the junction with the John Sloan Trail. Once there, you will have an easy walk on an old logging road. Using this connector you can form some strenuous, but interesting loop combinations. An example would be the following 8mile loop. Start from Jones Gap State Park on the Rim of the Gap Trail, hike the John Sloan Trail, then return on the Pinnacle Pass Trail. By hiking the loop in this direction, you are saved from a very strenuous climb up Little Pinnacle Mountain.

Length: 0.9 mile. After a 2.6 mile hike on the Rim of the Gap Trail or 4.5 miles on the Pinnacle Pass Trail.

Directions: From Greenville, drive northwest on US 276 to the junction with SC 11. Drive 1.4 miles past the junction and turn right onto River Falls Road (Greenville County S-23-97), which will change to Jones Gap Road. The road ends at Jones Gap State Park where you will need to hike 2.6 miles on the Rim of the Gap Trail or 4.5 miles on the Pinnacle Pass Trail.

Camping: Trailside primitive camping is allowed on certain trails. Contact Caesars Head or Jones Gap State Parks for details.
