Description:
From the sign at the parking area, you will descend on this moderately
steep, .3-mile, hiking-only gravel and crushed rock trail to reach the
gentle rapids of the scenic Chattooga River. You will cross several
foot-bridges over cool mountain streams, amid hardwood, pine, and
cedar, interspersed with rhododendron and fern. Watch for deer,
snakes, and other wildlife. This is an isolated area, so remember to
bring water, and first aid supplies, in addition to insect repellent.
Pets are permitted.

0.3-mile one-way.

Directions:
From Walhalla, drive northwest on SC 28 and turn left onto Whetstone
Road (Oconee County S-37-193). Drive 5 miles, and cross Chattooga Ridge Road
(S-37-196) where
Whetstone becomes Earls Ford Road. Drive 3 miles, and turn left onto
FS road 721A. Drive another 1.5 miles. The trail is on the left in the
parking area at the end of the road. (Please drive carefully. This is
a narrow and winding dirt road may be especially challenging in wet
weather.)

Dawn to dusk.
Camping:
Primitive camping is permitted in Sumter National Forest. Contact the
