(Harbison
State Forest)
Trail Map
Description :
Harbison State Forest offers a number of interconnected hiking and
biking trails. Stewardship is an easy to moderately challenging loop
trail, which is used by runners, hikers, and mountain bikers. Starting
at Parking Area 6 on the far north end of the gravel access road, you
will follow gentle slopes and fairly level terrain through a wooded
area. At approximately .7 mile, you can take a short spur (100 yards)
and rest on benches that offer a good view of Broad River. When you
turn away from the river, you will encounter steeper slopes and a more
rocks. You will cross small bridges, over gullies, and creeks as you
wind around the northern perimeter of the forest where the pines are
intermingled with hardwoods. Watch for wildlife, including
white-tailed deer, and a variety of birds, lizards, and snakes. If you
want to extend your hike or ride, at approximately 2.4 miles you can
take the Connector Trail to the Firebreak Trail.
Water and restrooms are available at the
gazebo area and the Environmental Education Center. Pets are permitted
on leashes
