Oconee Connector for the
Palmetto Trail
(Oconee County)
Trail
Map
Description:
Once the Palmetto Trail is complete, this moderately difficult trail
will be the terminus or end, but for now you can start from either
Oconee State Park or Oconee Station Historic Site. If you start from the
parking area for the Station Cove Falls Trail, you will walk about a
quarter mile before the Oconee Connector branches off to the right. You
may want to hike another quarter mile on the Station Cove Trail and view
the falls and then return.
Once on the Oconee Connector you will
start a moderately difficult climb on some switchbacks to a ridge line,
a rise of about 1000 feet. The view from this ridge is spectacular,
especially in the fall and winter. Once on the ridge, you will walk on
logging roads as you wind through a dense hardwood forest. As you
approach Oconee State Park, you will intersect with the Foothills Trail
and shortly after you will turn left into the woods. It is a fairly flat
walk from there to the parking area.
Insect repellent is recommended during the warmer months.
