Description: The first part of this trail is an easy float while on Cuckhold’s Creek, but becomes more challenging when you reach the Combahee River and the current slows. Cuckhold’s Creek offers scenic beauty, especially during the spring when the rare white spider lilies are in bloom along the banks, and the sight and sounds of many birds fill this serene area. This area also provides a bit of history, as you pass by the rice fields and the plantation house of the former Combahee Plantation. Be aware that about 1.5 miles from the put-in, Folly Creek joins Cuckhold’s Creek from the left can be mistaken for the main channel, so stay to the right. The best time launch is on the early falling tide, which in this area is 5-6 hours behind Charleston.

Mile 0 - Cuckhold’s Creek Landing - From Exit 42 on I-95 near Yemassee, drive south on US 21 for 2 miles and turn left onto US 17A. Drive east on US 17A for approximately 3 miles and turn right onto Colleton County S-15-66. Drive .9 mile and turn left onto S-15-119. Drive 9.2 miles to the junction of S-15-119 and S-15-66 and watch for the signs to the landing.

Mile 6.1 - Steel Bridge Landing - From Cuckhold’s Creek Landing - Drive south on Colleton County S-15-119. Turn right (west) onto US 17 and the bridge is 3.5 miles.

Hours: Dawn to dusk.
