Description:
Starting from the Rice Field Landing on the Lumber River, you will make
twists and turns, but when you reach the confluence of the Lumber and
Little Pee Dee the trail will widen. You may encounter power boats in
this area, so stay close the banks. Also, you may want to take a
compass, county map, or GPS unit as there are numerous oxbows, which can
cause confusion.
As you paddle the black water of the
Little Pee Dee, you will pass numerous river houses and possibly the
homes of beavers. Wildlife you may see as you paddle includes birds such
as wood ducks, pileated woodpeckers, acadian flycatchers, red and
white-eyed vireos, and prothonotary warblers. Also animals such as
non-poisonous water snakes, turtles, otters, raccoons, beavers, and
possibly alligators make their home in and along the river.
