State Natural Area
Starting from the parking area, you have a choice of a large loop, or a
short out and back section with a loop at its end that encircles a
peninsula of Richard B. Russell Lake. Blue Carsonite posts with arrows
or blue paint marks on trees provide you with directions for a
pleasant ride through overgrown fields and along sloping shorelines.
No facilities are available on the trail, but a portable restroom is
provided at the parking area. Compliance with State Parks Rules and
Regulations and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lease Agreement must be
10 miles of trail.
From Abbeville, drive west on
SC 71 to Lowndesville. Just past the curve in Lowndesville, turn left
onto Abbeville County S-1-65. McCalla State Natural Area and the
trailhead are at the end of S-1-65.
