Description:
From the trail kiosk near the picnic area, begin this short, easy-to-follow, dirt and gravel double-loop, nature trail through shady hardwood, sweet gum, and pine trees. You will descend steep steps, cross footbridges, and wind along a scenic creek in this park-like setting. You can rest on benches as you watch for birds, squirrels, snakes, and other wildlife.

Remember to wear insect repellant in warm weather. Pets are permitted on a leash. Restrooms and beverages are available at the back of the museum building.

Length: 0.5­mile loop.

Fees: No fee for the trail. (Museum admission: $5 for adults, $4 seniors, $3 for students, and free for children under 5.)

Directions: From I-77 North Exit 82, drive west on Celanese Road (SC 161) (toward airport). Drive to the third light and turn right onto Mt. Gallant Road (York County S­46­195). Drive 5.5 miles and the museum is on the corner at the intersection of Mt. Gallant and Museum Roads.

Hours: Dawn to dusk.

Camping: No camping.
