The trail begins along a wide jeep road through open forest, crossing a small stream in a very short distance. Once across the stream, the wide forest road you are following bears to the right, with a narrower, single track hiking trail bearing to the left. Going right will take you along the Wattacoo Lake Loop. Bearing left will take you along the Mountain Bridge Passage Trail.

This spectacular trail ambles along one of the highest ridges in the State and is the longest trail in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. The Pinnacle Pass Trail is quite strenuous, but offers one of the best views in the East.

Middle Saluda Passage is resplendent with waterfalls, dramatic (and challenging) elevation changes, and diverse ecosystems. The passage (marked with Palmetto Trail signs) connects about 14 miles of existing trails (with multiple-colored blazes) in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area.

This is an arduous, wooded trail that follows the NC/SC state line from the peak of Sassafras Mountain to Caesars Head State Park. The trail is worth it, though, as it features wonderful views from Sassafras Mountain—highest peak in South Carolina—and Raven Cliff Falls.
