Dorothy B. Kearns Park is a nice natural area which has been protected from development along the marshes of Mount Pleasant. There are several points that offer great views of the wetland and of the Wando River.

This is a famous Issaqueena trail, with short, tough climbs and tight turns. There are many scenic views of Lake Hartwell along this trail, as well as nice spots to catch a quick breather, too.

Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was born to former slaves in rural Mayesville in Sumter County, the youngest of 17 children and the only one born into freedom. In Bethune's hometown, there is a lovely park named in her honor, as well as a wonderful nature trail that can be used for an afternoon stroll or bike ride.

Duck Pond actually consists of two ponds, both connected to the main lake and accessible by a single, narrow opening. Abundant cypress, varied vegetation and protection from main-lake wind and boat waves combine to provide outstanding spawning habitat for largemouth bass in the Duck Pond.

Back River is accessed from Durham Creek Landing on Cypress Gardens Road, adjacent to the highway bridge. Upon launching, you will paddle to the east – under the highway bridge and the railroad trestle just beyond.
