From the trail head near Glassy Mountain Church Road, begin this narrow, steep, rugged, rooted, unmarked footpath. As you climb the mountain, you will wind beneath tall pines and shady hardwoods including Chestnut Oak and Hickory. Watch for a variety of birds, snakes, and other wildlife. From rock out-croppings near the top of the mountain, enjoy breathtaking views of the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Escarpment including Table Rock and Caesar Head mountains. When you reach the parking area atop glassy Mountain, you can return the way you came or walk down the paved road past the lookout and communications towers.

Portions of his trail may be quite hazardous especially in wet weather. At all times, watch your step and keep a close eye on children. Pets are permitted on a leash. Insect repellant is recommended in warm weather.

From the intersection of SC 8 and SC 183 in Pickens, drive east for 1.4 miles on SC 183 (Farr’s Bridge Road) and turn left on South Glassy Mountain Road (Pickens County S-39-207). Drive 1 mile to the trail head on the right just past Glassy Mountain Church Road. Park at the trail sign, or drive another .3 mile to the crushed stone parking area at the top of the mountain.
