Begin this winding, wooded, out and back trail at the yellow pole near the bridge over Colonels Creek on Leesburg Road. You will cross the creek on a wooden footbridge and turn left at the trail sign. Interpretive signs along the trail provide information about the training area's natural and cultural resources. Follow the red and silver markers through tangled roots, fern, and grass along the flood plain of Colonels Creek. When you cross the wide path, be aware that the markers switch to the opposite side of the trail. At the end, return the way you came by following the blue and white markers. The Harry J. Vann Trail connects to the Fort Jackson Passage of the Palmetto Trail.

During warm weather watch for snakes and other wildlife, and wear insect repellant to discourage biting flies, ticks, and mosquitoes. There are no facilities on the trail, so you may want to bring drinking water.

From Exit 9 on I-77 in Columbia: Drive east on Leesburg Road (SC 262) for approximately 12.5 miles. The trail is on the left, before the McCrady Training Center. Park alongside Leesburg Road near the wide bridge. The trail begins at the yellow pole (trailhead).
