Loading Trails

From the trail head at Campground 1, or from Lee Chappell Road entrance, begin this easy and well-marked nature trail. Hike or bike your way along the Scenic Shoreline Trail for beautiful views of Lake Greenwood or follow the Forest Trail for a tour of the woodlands. The East and West Loop Trails are simply shorter versions of the main trail. Watch for a variety of wildlife along the trail to include blue heron, turtles, song birds and eagles and notice the diversity of plant life as you meander through the forest. A popular attraction from March to early April is the blooming wisteria. Fishermen will delight in the many scenic fishing spots along the shoreline. Pick your trail and your pace, and enjoy.

Directions:

From Exit 76 on I-26 at Newberry: Drive west on SC 219. Turn left onto US 76 /SC 34 and follow the signs for SC 34 (You will turn right in less than a mile). After 3 miles, you will turn left and SC 34 will join SC 121 for approximately 4.5 miles. Stay on SC 34 through Silverstreet. Drive 15 miles and turn right onto SC 702, and the entrance to Greenwood State Park Road is less than 2 miles on the right. Enter the park road, pass through the gate, and follow the circle to the left. Turn right at the sign for shelters #2&3. Stay left at the fork, and turn left at the sign for camping area #1. The Recreation Building is on the left.
