This is an easy loop trail—the path begins from the Lake Trail—leading you through a once thriving grove of American Chestnut. The American chestnut (Castanea dentata) was devastated by the chestnut blight and may only reach a mature height of twenty feet today before succumbing to the blight. Also, keep a keen eye out to spot some historical CCC structures along the path. The Wormy Chestnut Trail also links up with the Oconee Passage of the Palmetto Trail.

Camping: Call 1-866-345-PARK (7275) or go online at www.SouthCarolinaParks.com to make your reservations today!

Directions:

From Walhalla (at the junction of SC 183): Drive 8 miles northwest on SC 28 and bear right onto SC 107. Continue 2.5 miles on SC 107 and turn right at the Oconee State Park entrance. After the fee station, turn left and park in the area below the Park Office.
