The most famous—Peachtree Rock—looks like a precariously balanced overturned pyramid. Some 20 feet high, it is a remnant from millions of years ago when the Sandhills were the continent’s eastern coastline.

The Peak to Prosperity Passage proceeds west from the Alston trailhead in Fairfield County across the impressive Broad River trestle. The view from the 1,100-foot-long bridge is spectacular, especially when bald eagles soar. Across the river in Newberry County, the rail-trail skirts Peak and cuts an easy swath through piedmont forest to Pomaria and Prosperity.

Penn Center, with its 16 historic buildings—all registered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation—sits quietly on a rural side street on St. Helena Island. There is an easy, one-mile loop trail located here that serves as an outdoor classroom.

At about 2.5 miles into this trip, Penny Creek empties into the Edisto River where you will pass a number of rice plantations, and if you are adventurous, many small creeks to explore.

Peters Creek Heritage Preserve covers 160 acres in Spartanburg County. This piedmont cove forest, with its rolling topography, an old mill dam, two creeks and walking trails, is a pleasant and peaceful place to visit.

This trail offers scenic views of the Catawba River and is a great location for a variety of outdoor activities. The trail features rolling terrain with occasional steep grades. Along the trail are benches, trash cans and pet waste stations and several small bridges. This trail is in close proximity to restaurants and several cycling facilities in the Riverwalk development. Mountain bike trails with varying degrees of difficulty can be accessed from the PMC Trail.

The Table Rock State Park hiking trails take hikers past mountain streams and waterfalls to the tops of Pinnacle and Table Rock mountains.

This spectacular trail ambles along one of the highest ridges in the State and is the longest trail in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. The Pinnacle Pass Trail is quite strenuous, but offers one of the best views in the East.

Pipsissewa is nice flowing trail with a few steps, jumps and rocky areas. Once you reach the junction of the North Lake Trail, you can return or circle the lake.

Pleasant Ridge Park is home to the popular JFA Trail, which is a mostly smooth-rolling, hard-packed singletrack that borders the perimeter of the park. The park also offers the Leroy Smith Trail, Sassy's Pass and the Mill Creek Path.

The 4,600-acre preserve includes almost three miles of undeveloped, breathtaking beachfront that you’ll never forget. It only takes about a half-mile to walk from the parking area to the beach along the Pockoy Island Trail, but then you can continue exploring as far as you want along the beach.

Poinsett Park is one of the most popular and highly visited Greenville Rec parks. The park provides visitors a picnic shelter, restrooms, a playground area and a .25-mile walking path.

Poinsett Reservoir Passage travels the mountain ridges along the northern boundary of Poinsett Watershed. This pristine watershed of 19,000 acres contains the headwaters feeding Poinsett Reservoir of the Greenville Water System (GW).

This multi-purpose path is located in Clinton, on the beautiful campus of Presbyterian College (PC). The trail is about a mile in length and can be used by visitors and students/faculty for biking, jogging or simply taking a leisurely stroll and enjoying the fresh air.

The Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 23+mile multi-use greenway system that runs along the Reedy River connecting Greenville County with schools, parks, and local businesses. The Swamp Rabbit will continue to grow, offering fun, non-motorized recreation, and transportation.

Quinby Creek is accessed at the Ralph Hamer, Sr. Landing on Cainhoy Road, approximately one quarter of a mile west of the Highway 41 junction. Hamer Landing is a large, concrete, double ramp adjacent to the Quinby Creek Bridge. Ample parking is available.

Located in Forest Acres (hidden behind a Walgreens), at the corner of North Beltline and Forest Drive, is this quiet park and the criss-crossing rubber paths are perfect for an afternoon stroll or for those just learning to bike ride. There are also nice picnic shelters, as well as porch swings.
