SC Trails

This is an easy 4.7 mile trail through old rice field impoundments located at the Santee Coastal Reserve.

The McCaskill Trail, which starts at the dock on the south end of the island, provides great access for serious birders and casual hikers alike.

Capital City Passage, the first urban passage on the Palmetto Trail, features South Carolina’s largest city and seat of state government. The passage follows city sidewalks through beautiful neighborhoods, past city parks and schools, along the historic Horseshoe and across the steps of the State Capitol.

CAW is an outdoor park with camping that has 100 miles of riding trails, plus attractions that include a drag strip.

Carolina Bay Nature Preserve offers nature trails to wander through natural wetlands locating in the city of Aiken.

This 2 mile trail loop provides some breathtaking views of Table Rock State Park.

As you walk on these paths, look alongside the trail for white-fringed, yellow-fringed, and rosebud orchids and carnivorous plants such as the Venus’ fly traps and pitcher plants.

The Catawba Indian Nation Cultural Center provides an overview of the rich culture and history of the Catawba Indian Nation. There are exhibits, walking trails and craft store featuring crafts from native artisans.

The Blueway offers a fun, relaxing travel downstream, whether in a kayak, canoe or tube. Four class I rapids give an exhilarating twist to an otherwise calm float downstream. Travelers may exit the water at the Riverwalk or River Park. The access at Riverwalk is near restaurants and the multi-use Piedmont Medical Center Trail that follows the river to the take out at River Park.

The Catawba River is home to the largest known population of the rocky shoals spider lily, a flower species found predominantly in the Southeast. Peak bloom season for the rocky shoals spider lily is during May and June.
