Most of the two-mile hike ambles along a pleasant trail shaded by an assortment of hardwoods and bordered at times by small partridgeberry wildflowers. But when you reach the Chattooga River, you will turn left onto a heavily vegetated path and scramble around rocks and trees for the last half-mile hike to the base of the waterfall.

The Outdoor Learning Lab at Batesburg-Leesville High School features an easy-to-follow nature trail that follows Gin Branch Creek—a small rippling stream with large rocks located on the far side of the path. This trail is unknown to most and absolutely worth the short hike for trail enthusiasts.

This park, next to Owens Field Airport in downtown Columbia, is home to a 15,000 square-foot outdoor skate park. Starting from the parking area of Memorial Stadium, this easy walking dirt trail starts by following a small creek. You can also enhance your walk by playing Frisbee golf as you go from one basket to the next.

Located near the confluence of the Pacolet River and the Lawson’s Fork, the 258 acre preserve protects two prehistoric soapstone outcrops that date back 3-5,000 years ago and provides habitat for uncommon plant species. The preserve is a great place to spend an afternoon hiking and enjoying nature.

Parsons Mountain Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail is located in the northern portion of the Long Cane Ranger District. The trail is only managed for allterrain vehicles (ATV) and dirt bikes. Jeeps, Hummers and other four-wheel-drive vehicles are not permitted. Golf carts also are not allowed.
