Wambaw Creek is a pretty black water tidal creek located in the Francis Marion National Forest. It meanders through the Wambaw Creek Wilderness Area created in 1980. There are two public landings providing access to the creek: Still Landing and Elmwood Landing.

A figure-eight motorcycle and off-highway vehicle (OHV) trail, this sandy course winds through fragrant pine woods with shimmering hardwoods in the understory. Along the way, riders can glimpse vernal ponds with bald cypress as well as turkeys and whitetailed deer.

The Wateree Passage begins in Poinsett State Park and runs to the Wateree River, crossing through Manchester State Forest and traveling along the remnants of the old SC Railroad through Sumter Junction. The passage is one of the most diverse sections of the Palmetto Trail, traversing a variety of landscapes, from high hills down to a magnificent river swamp.

Continuing downstream, paddlers cross the fall line and enter the coastal plain known for its countless sandbars, high bluffs, and extensive floodplain.
