The Stumphouse Passage is the newest addition to the Palmetto Trail, and the trail begins at the Stumphouse Tunnel Park in Walhalla. The Stumphouse Passage offers the Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park, a state-of-the-art mountain biking facility and the only such recreational facility open to the public in the upstate.

Sugarloaf Mountain, a traditional gathering place for over a century, is maintained on Sand Hills State Forest as a family recreational area. Known locally as "The Mountain", Sugarloaf is an unusual geological phenomenon towering a hundred feet above the surrounding terrain.

This moderately difficult two-loop nature trail winds through the center of the South Carolina Sandhills. This trail is well maintained and marked, and the soft terrain makes this hike a bit easier on the feet.

Sulphur Springs is one of the main climbs/downhill rides at Paris Mountain State Park. You can start in either direction on this narrow, steep, strenuous, rocky, rugged, white-blazed loop trail.

Summers Memorial Park is operated by the City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department and provides a wonderful fitness trail in a scenic setting.

Poinsett State Park is sometimes called “the mountains of the Midlands,” because of the unique natural setting. The newest addition to the park’s trail system is the Swamp Fox—this trail travels along the edges of Campbell Creek’s swampy valleys.

At 47 miles, the Swamp Fox Passage is the longest section of the cross-state Palmetto Trail. The passage traverses four distinct ecosystems through Francis Marion National Forest, including swamps made famous as hideouts of Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion.
